42 Golf Swing Basics

The first thing that you must take care of is the way you grip the golf club. That is one of the basics and remember that the fate of an entire game can hang in the balance if your grip is more than stiff. The most important thing is, your grip has to be relaxed and therefore gripping the ball tightly wont help matters. Do not aim to hit the ball, rather, aim to hit through the ball instead. There are three kinds of grips and you should try out each of them before deciding which one you are more comfortable with.

  • The first is the Interlocking Grip where the left hand index finger and the right hand little finger interlock. This is meant for people with either short or thick hands.
  • The second grip is the Overlapping Grip where the right hand little finger is on top of the left hand index finger. This is used by people with strong and muscular forearms.
  • The third kind of grip is the Baseball Grip where the left hand index finger and the right hand little finger make contact but do not overlap each other. This is used by beginners.

The second basic that you must develop upon is your golf stance or your position. If you have a bad position that can ruin your swing set up as well. kep your back straight and bend at the hips a little. However, remember to flex your knees a little. These things are the pre-golf swing basics without which the golf swing can never be set up.

When you are doing the Golf Back swing for example, do not try to draw too much of attention to your arms. Rather, think of it as putting your golf club behind your back. That is what your aim should be. Do not contrive to develop a backswing. Rather, let it happen in the natural flow of things. Move your body by using the spine as your pivot.

Another beginner’s favourite is the three quarter backswing. This uses the golfer as the axis around which the body, he hands and the golf club are rotated. This also ensures that you have a steady and dependable golf swing and which can guarantee you a good shot. The three quarter backswing is also considered to be simpler and easier than the backswing in general.
